TECHNICAL TOUR
Büyükada Eco-Tourism & Fire Observation Tower Visit

Büyükada, the largest of the nine islands collectively known as the “Princes’ Islands” in Istanbul, is an important destination for photography and nature enthusiasts due to its rich forest cover, unique biodiversity, and a climate that transitions between the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions.
The eco-tourism plan for Büyükada has been developed with a strong emphasis on the sustainability of the island’s natural and cultural resources. The routes were carefully selected to minimize environmental impact while ensuring an optimal visitor experience.

  • Hiking Trails:
    • The first hiking route starts from Lunapark Square and continues up to Aya Yorgi Church, stretching approximately 1 km.
    • The second hiking route also begins at Lunapark Square, completing a full 4.5 km loop around Yücetepe in the southern part of the island.
  • Cycling Trail:
    • The primary cycling path, actively used today, begins at Lunapark Square and follows the main Büyük Tour Road, covering 5.8 km.

The Fire Observation Tower on the island is equipped with advanced monitoring systems connected to the Fire Coordination Center, allowing for 24/7, 360-degree surveillance through cameras and internet-based systems. Inside the tower, various social events introduce visitors to forestry practices, media briefings can be held, and panoramic demonstrations of forestry operations are showcased. The tower has a total enclosed area of 252 square meters and continues to facilitate on-site personnel for manual monitoring and rapid response interventions.
